anyone have recommendations for how I should go about learning AE ?

Im starting from scratch, and am already considering the following books :
composing motion Graphics
After Effects in Production
Creating After effects grapics for TV/Film

anyone got a recommendation ???

Grizz as i told you with flash, learn by doing. Me and a mate of mine got a short on TV last year using tons of stuff from after-effects. You're always moaning that your skint man, so just try experimenting, that's how we learned.

PS I know your gonna buy a bloody book anyway, but I had to ty man.

Im playing with it and not getting far.
It would Appear you have to have all the files created first, then use AE to move em about.

Hey, go to Adobe.com. There are a bunch of tutorials there for after effects. This should give enough of a basic understanding that you can figure out the rest from there.

PS does anyone use Premire with a Matrox card? I cannot import my after effects clips into Premire when i am using the Matrox. Any suggestions?

Hey there.

GrizzlyAdams just experiment. You dont need any ready made files. Just go to composition select a new one choose a sixe then import a still picture.(start with stills it will render your experiments quickly) Now just go through all the effect one bye one and see what they do to the picture. Just mess about learn each effect. Try combining them. You will see things that may be usefull in the future.

Learning by doing is realy the best way man. Its all smoke and mirrors.

If you have an actual effect your trying to achieve just ask on here. Who knows if your lucky you may get some step by spep help.

Grizz, don't worry, I feel ya. AE doesn't lend itself to easy learning, like Photoshop and Premiere, which you just push a few buttons and you're like, "Oh, this is easy."
